spring plate questions

g'day everyone!

Having trouble with the installation of my spring plates for my '68 912. The original bushings were vulcanised. I have purchased both the early and the later bushing sets.

The early, smaller bushings sit rather loosely in the hole, and the newer Neatrix bushing are unbelievably tight. In fact I would need to use a hammer with some considerable force to get the plate all the way in , not to mention the cover plate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Use 4 longer bolts to tighten the bushing in the torsion tube.

Then, when its pulled in deep enough, replace the longer bolts with the original ones.

Be sure to do it crossed so it gets pressed into the hole evenly.

Thanks for the tip...

However to I go with the big bushes or the smaller diameter ones? It is really really tight - to the point were I am worried I might strip the threads!

The smaller bushes feel just to loose though.

Its in a '68 912

cheers

Yes, use the larger bushings. And the long bolts as above.

Lubricate the outer part of the bushing with liquid soap, this helps alot.

You did superglue the bushings to the spring plate, right?

hey chuck.
I tried the super glue but it was so tight I had to put the bushing in first, then "ram" the plate into the bushing. I hope this method is ok?

cheers
