How do I get the dino oil out of the lines?

Are you sure you want to run synthetic? A search of the forum shows a theme of leaky engines after the switch (particularly Mobil 1).

It was my experience that my engine went from 'relatively leak free' to a sieve in a day after putting synthetic in :( It was remedied with a switch back to a decent dino...

Have you any experience with putting synthetic after a re-build?. I have approx. 2500 miles on my 3.0 litre.
What is a decent dino? I'm running Castrol 20-50 right now.

To be honest, when I rebuilt my engine I stayed with dino - was too scared to try synthetic on fresh engine... But I do know others were fine with a 'fresh' engine and synthetic. My guess is than synthetic is so thin that it finds every gap on older engines!

I'm currently using Fuchs Titan 30-60 with no problems (I live in a hot environment). I tend to change oil rather regularly. I think you're safe with any of the name brand dinos. There has been some monumental threads discussing oil and additives (particularly ZDP), but the best advice seemed to be to use whatever oil you like, but change regularly.

That's pretty much the opposite of what was discussed in the oil thread by our resident experts.

FWIW, I switched from dino to synthetic at about 50,000 miles with no leaks at all.

Fix the leaks, no problem. Synthetic oil is not the cause.

I used to think that. My GMC Jimmy had synthetic its whole life. At 115k she started dripping a little oil. Looked like the RMS. I switched to dino and it went away. That vehicle is pushing 170k and still doesn't leak.

My 911 doesn't leak much, but it does drip about 50% more with Mobil 1 than Brad Penn.

Again, I wouldn't have believed synthetic would leak more but there is way too much evidence out there to the contrary.

No, but the concept of just using any oil is. Frequent changing wastes money and increases environmental impact.

Please read the oil thread. Our engines have specific needs that not just any oil meets. Change intervals will be based on the type of driving you do, your climate, and the oil you use. The best interval is determined through testing. Changing too frequently doesn't gain anything.

I run Royal Purple in the Box S, so I thought I'd try it in the '73 2.4...wrong.

Leaks where I'd never had a problem; put good 'ol Castrol 20W50 back in and the leaks all dissapeared.

Fair 'nuff... Looks like I have some evening reading :)

Put a pot of coffee on- it could take a while!
