I Found My Double Arrow Demon Today. (turn signal arrows)
It's a cold, rainy and crapy day here in Wisconsin today. Perfect day for some of my minor projects. Like my Double Arrow Demon that has been teasing me since I bought my car. Today was not his day! .http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/ar15.gifhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/devil.gif
This is the common bad ground problem with these cars. I purchased some Italian front lens's a while back. When I installed them had to do the mandatory removal of the housings to repaint them. What a huge PIA that was. Cleaned the grounds inside the housings with a dremel and a polishing wheel, still double arrows. Dremel with a sanding wheel, cleaned the grounds behind the bumper on both sides. Still nothing! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1240707683.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1240707712.jpg |
So I continued working my way back to the gauges. Found this ground point and it is a PIA to get at and clean. It was not that dirty but cleaned it anyway, inspected the wires. Still nothing.:(
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1240707961.jpg This is the drivers side just behind the hood shock. It is a 13mm nut and is a bear to get at, it is under the wiring harness and at an angle. Next pull the tach and check connections. Tach does not come all the way out as it is hitting my steering colum cover. Not sure how this comes off, did not want to break so I pulled the fuel gauge to look around and the oil gauge. I found it is really easy to pull the turn signal relay through the fuel gauge hole. Much easier than trying to get at it from under the hood. I wiggled it with the turn signal on and sure enough there it was. Got Him!!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1240708566.jpg The ground on the relay was pushed into the relay housing. I did not have another one so I used a pliers and pulled it back out, then filed it clean with a points file and WHAM the Demon is dead for now. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/boldblue.gif I am just so happy now I know which way I'm turning. :) |
Awesome!!! I seem to get a bigger hard-on when I successfully fix an electrical issue, rather than a mechanical one....probably because they're a bigger PITA on these cars.
Congrats!!! |
I love stories with a happy ending!
|
Thanks
I also fixed the clock again, this time it was dirty points where it gets energized. Dirty from the oil I used the last time I fixed it.:o |
Talk to me about the clock. Mine works but is S-L-O-W (I also have to hunt down the double arrow demon).
The clock though. I grabbed a jewelers screwdriver and turned the +/- adjuster toward the + side... yeah? Doesn't seem to effect it, maybe even had the opposite effect. It used to work and work well... |
I fixed the clock real good! Congrats on the electrical fix they are a pain for sure.

I gently blew air over the gears to make sure they were clean and add a few drops of household oil? I had to adjust the +/- to fine tune it as I need to do again. I had a fire from my battery shorting out and the clock stopped working again, trust me at the time I was not worried about it, figured the solder let lose when the battery shorted out. Not this time, it was the set of contacts on the weighted mechinism, when they make contact it gets energized and winds it untill they touch agian. This is the mysterious noise coming from our dash boards every 5-10 minutes.(Just a guess on the time) The points were dirty from the oil I used. I cleaned them with a shop cloth wraped around a small screwdriver with some contact cleaner. Working great so far just a little slow. I did not take any pictures of this now I wish I had. If I find some I will post them. Good Luck |

Oh ok the mount is there for the radio but haven't put it in yet as I still have some welding to do and didn't want to fry another radio, thanks anyway the look kinda grows on you after a while doesn't it.
|
None of my business....but would the speedo not be easier to read if it were clocked in the other direction?
|
Its just in there right now I haven't set up any of the guages yet but your right that would kinda suck that way

I think it looks just fine. You could paint the trim black or buy the silver trim rings if it ever bother's you. |
Nope like it the way it is.
