 Oil temp high after Alternator udgrade I just completed painting my Alternator Fan and Housing on my 78 911SC.  When I went to go reinstall the Alternator the fan blades (11 Blade) were scraping the inside of the housing. I tried uninstalling and reinsalling several times making sure all bolts securing the alternator to the housing were torqued evenly. I thought that maybe the paint added to much length to the blades and the inside diameter of the housing was decreased by the paint as well. So I took the fan off and sanded the tips of the blades off just enough so that the ends didn't scrape any more. Now, I noticed driving today, one day after reinstall of alternator and blade tips ground down, that my oil temp was up. The needle on the gauge was pointing to the 9 0'clock position which I believe is the 220 degree mark approx. This was after a 15 minute ride on I-95 doing about 70-75MPH mostly staying in 4th gear. It was about 80 degrees today. Should I be concerned? Last summer in even hotter days I don't think it ever went over the first line? Did grinding down the blades effect the cooling?:eek: Thanks. |

 Is the belt tension correct?  They did not coat the fan side pully face did they? How much clearance did you make? Larger clearance = less efficiency= less cooling. There is no way that a shop rag snuck under the shroud when the fan/housing were at the powder coaters is there? |

 I am not sure about the pulley tension.  My mechanic had added some shims in there to begin with.  I put them all back and tightened it down. There is no paint on the pulley face. No rags got in. The fan blades are approx .90mm away from the inside of the housing. |

 did you reinstall the air guide in the correct orientation? |

 As far as the air guide, I believe so.  Looking the fan with the air guide behind attached the the backside of the alternator there are two fins.  One at 12 and the other at like 10 o'clock.  Is that correct? |
