I'm Ready for My Oil Change, Mr. Pelican...
I now have enough oil for today's change and the next. My Pelican mentor happens to have the filter I need. GOOD THING since I didn't have the presence of mind to get one before the weekend. DOH! We have an appointment for later this afternoon in his garage.
Stay tuned...... ![]() (bracing for potshots about my choice of oil! ![]()

Heh heh. I bought some oil this past week, in preparation for whenever I go back underneath the car to check the bolt torque on the CV joints I replaced earlier this month. Then I realized yesterday that I have no oil filter. I've placed a couple orders on Pelican last month to get those CV joints and associated bits, and neglected to ask for a filter, too. Doh!

Well that was fun! I'm processing the video now & it'll take awhile to upload. I'll be back in awhile with a link. As usual, my friend did the work. But after getting up in there and getting my hands on things, I think I could easily do this by myself next time. John embodies the spirit of the Pelican community - thanks for showing me the way, John!
Is it just me, or did my car purrrrrr just a little sweeter on the ride home?? ![]()

FYI, I too changed my engine oil this weekend. While I was in there, I also changed the gearbox oil.
I used Brad Penn 20w50 to get high ZDDP, and Mobil 1 Delvac for the G50. Both from LN Engineering (www.lnengineering.com) - good price, prompt shipping. A few minor issues: The opening torque for the gearbox plugs were VERY high. I appeal to everyone to use a torque wrench and fresh crush washers on the drain plugs. By the way, the crush washers for the gear box plugs and the engine oil drain plugs are the same. The inexpensive pump I got at my FLAPS for the gearbox/transaxle lube didn't fit the cap threads on the jug, and the pickup wasn't really long enough. Any suggestions? Of course, I once again made a mess draining the oil tank. My high-capacity drain pan is the type with a shallow conical shape in the top, and a hole in the middle. This time, the drain plug dropped on the center, blocking the hole, so the pan overflowed before I could grab the drain plug. Any suggestions for a good high-capacity drain pan? |

So I wasn't the only one changing oil today! I had my gear oil changed a few months ago so I wasn't worried about that today. I need to check the torque specs for the two plugs. Anybody know offhand?
Well here's the video, and thanks to Pelican John who shared his garage, expertise, and lent a new filter & crush washer to the job!
