My fuchs are polished to a mirror finish-how can I protect it?
I'm looking for what works to protect the polished aluminum surface. A coat of wax? Clearcoat? Another product?
What have you used and what were the results? Thanks! |
I wax mine with wheel wax and the last time I polished was in 2006...Its still shiny buy my 1966 doesn't get parked outside or see water.

Thanks EP. Where do you get such wheel wax? what brand? My car only sees rain if its raining at the DE so for the most part its protected.

I thought Gibbs would dull them down. |
Mine are clear powdercoated and they look as good today as when I got them 5 years ago.

After you powdercoated them, were they still super shiny, or did they get dulled down a little?

It's amazing how long polished aluminum stays bright if you're not at the ocean or in some other extreme condition. A bit of Mother's once a year keeps mine just fine. After six years, they are just a bit less shiny than they were when Al Reed did them.

Mothers - and the mini power ball - although a coat of rejex will help too!

Screw all that Mothers and specialized wheel wax, etc.
I have a can of pure Carnauba paste wax (Stay Brite) that is easily 25 years old from when I did it professionally. I have used the wax on countless numbers of cars and there is still 1/4 can left! Took me 5 minutes to throw a coat of wax on, wiped off with a microfiber towel (this makes a HUGE difference in scratches), and will put another coat on a couple of months from now. My car and wheels gets a bath EVERY time I get home from a run, wiped down and covered. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1240846198.jpg |
I'd be interested in what technique you used to get the shine? To answer your question, I use Mother's and elbow grease on mine say twice a year. I can get them pretty close to original shine. Sometimes put a bit of regular wax on after shining.
