Cam oil line ferrel/nut

What is the proper way to install the rt oil line against the hollow bolt in the pressure sender? I just installed a new line and it is leaking terribly at the ferrel and nut. Actually oil is coming out the back of the tightening nut. How do you place the ferrel on the line and line it up with the bolt and tighten the darn thing? The right line was leaking so I thought I would replace it and now it is worse. It can't be that difficult. Nut on the oil line, then ferrel, flat end first so the pointie end will fit inside the hollow bolt, and just line it up on the hollow bolt and connect, right? WTF? I have to be missing something simple.

I put it all back together and started it and oil is coming out the back of the nut. Tightened it, and tried again. 3/4 times and have tightened the hell out of it. Still leaking. Help!!

I have put some orange loctite (same as used on the case halves) on the ferrel where it seals onto the bolt. Then snug it up, that was the only way to stop my new line from leaking, Been good for almost six months now.

Which way does that ferrel go on the line? Its not leaking from the thread end of the nut but the back of it.

the ferrell needs to be about 1/8" past the end of the line. on lines that use a loose ferrell, push the line all the way into the fitting then tighten the nut. pointed end toward the fitting. my lines come with the ferrell on them already.

I pulled it back off this morning and here is what it looks like. When I loosened the banjo bolt at the other end, the line into the tightening nut just fell out of the nut and when I took the nut off the thru bolt the ferrel was all the way inside the bolt.
This where the ferrel was; inside the thru bolt of the sensor;

This is the ferrel removed from the bolt and put back on the cam line

This is the whole shabag inline;

In order to have a leak free seal:

The tubing must pass completely through the ferrule.
The ferrule is then compressed tightly around the tube by tightening the nut.

Note: If the ferrule has been compressed without the tube fully inserted; it may no longer fit over the tube. In this case you will need a new ferrule, or, you may be able to stretch it back out a bit if it is close to fitting.

Here is a link to a website with some pics: http://www.vici.com/ft_intro/fi_val1.php

Hope this helps...

What I had failed to do was ensure that the line passed thru the ferrule went I put it together and the ferrule got pushed into the bolt. What a dumb*****!

Thanks John (John Walkers Workshop), for all the help today. Went right back
together and no leaks. I really do appreciate you taking the time as busy as you are!! Thank you!

Recently found an oil leak as well. Same symptoms, sitting in the garage after the cleaning all the oil and no visible leaks. Drive down the road and sure enough, there is. There seems to be a little "collection" of oil directly under where the left camshaft pressure lines come together. I'm going to clean it again and try the baby powder idea and/or wrap a small piece of cloth around the fitting and see if it's soaked after a short drive.
Beyond the compression fittings, are there any other things I need to be aware of. I was looking thru the bentley manual(pg.152-6) and I didn't see the bolt torque values.
From what I'm reading this is a common problem, given the age of the car.
