pre-74 heat exchanger clearance on SC

I bought some early heat exchangers to install on my 82 SC and the left one can't make it to the exhaust studs because it is running into the shock. Can the heater box be "modified" to allow for about 1 1/4" of clearance or is it going to damage the tube inside? Anyone run into this before? I didn't see any posts on this in all my research.

thanks

I've done the same work but on a 3.2 with Dansk exchangers + muffler pre-74 , 2 in 2.

Normally , you just have to re-locate with the special part the oil line.

I can't understand what exactly is not going on with your left exchanger .....but modifying the heater box tube is not a good idea on my mind.

You say that touchs on the rear shocks absorbers ??

Could you have them swapped (on the wrong side)?

Yes it's hitting the bottom of the shock which is preventing it from mating to the exhaust studs.

After looking I do see that the SWB and LWB cars have different part numbers for the heat exchangers.

No one has run into this? Need to figure this out quick as I am leaving for the track Friday.

I guess it's possible. The car is at the shop so I'm assuming my mechanic has them on the correct sides.

thanks

I do know that they can be swapped and if so will have clearance issues. Some exchangers have the air intakes not at 90 deg so and on these types of exchangers it's easy to mix them up.

I had an issue with SSI's on my last build with a 3.0 from a '78 on my '70. It sounds like the same location as you describe. I ended up massaging the heat exchanger so it was not in the way of the shock mount. It took all of 5 minutes to fix.

Ok , i can see the issue you have.

Just to cut-off the border that touch , or , if that touchs too much , twist it with care.

That's just my opinion mate !!!

Thanks for all of the replies. My mechanic was able to "encourage" it to fit.
