Please recommend a good independent Porsche specialist in Houston?

I know this is not 100% 911 related, but I hope someone here can help

A close friend to mine who lives in Houston has a Boxster, and had some bad experiences with the last place he took the car to be services, so is looking for recommendations on who to trust his car to in the Houston area - who do you use that you trust, and would recommend?

Also, his battery went flat a little while back, and he has been told he has to get it towed back to a Porsche specialist to have the computer reset etc - I do not know to much about the Boxster so can not say for sure, but this sounds mad to me! What is the process in a Boxster if the battery is disconnected for a prolonged time?

Any recommendations and support greatly appreciated...

I am in Houston in the Northwest side of town (Houston is 50 miles wide?). I use Champion Imports on highway 249 near 1960 for my 1985 911. The mechanic is named Michael and his two sons work with him. I would trust him with any German car, or my wife for that matter. You can tell him I said that.

If he does not have the Boxster computer resetting tool. He can tell you where to take it.

I also know a shop that will try to sell you a new motor and transmission if your tail light is not working correctly. If this was the only shop in Houston and they promised free oil changes, I would sell my Porsche and drive a Chrysler mini-van.

Thank you Jeffrey, I will pass the details on to Jerry.

So, do you really need to reset the computer on a Boxster if the battery goes dead - Sounds very scary to me!

I don't have any experience with Boxsters... Wayne just finished writing a book about them. Maybe he knows about resetting the computers?

Does Jerry use this forum? Maybe someone in the Boxster section knows?

I own a 2001 boxster s and last time I went to get it, the battery was dead, I hooked up an outside batt to the fuse box area to open the trunk, jumpstarted it and I had no problems at all with any computers

Thank you all for the great comments.

No Jeffrey, Jerry is not a user on this forum - that is why I am posting for him. He is not the type of person to get under the car and fix it himself, which is why I am helping him to find someone he can trust to help look after the car.

Paul,

I can offer your friend a jump start.. If what GoldSC is saying is correct, maybe we can start him right up?

Send me a PM to get my phone number.
