engine flooding
 

Hi i have a 3L SC Targa (euro) CIS engine the car floods its self on start up Ive found that if i turn the ignition on run the pump then remove the fuel relay the car will start and run ok till the fuel runs out if i replace the relay whilst its running it will again flood unless i keep the revs up any suggestions? note the engine has been removed dressed and replaced?

No suggestion anyone? is the pump supposed to run continuos with the ignition on?

Mike,

Not for '76-'83 (911) models. For '74 & '75 models, FP run when you turned the ignition switch ON. What rear is your chassis? Did you mention that your FP runs with the FP relay unplug? Keep us posted.

It's possible to mix up the electrical connectors for the WUR and the CSV. This causes the CSV to run all the time, and the car will run very rich. I don't think it would flood, but it would run rich. Easy to check. Make sure the WUR is getting power all the time, not just with the key in the start position.

The other thing I would check is the plunger in the fuel distributor. If it is stuck, it could flood the engine. Move the air valve up and down, and make sure the plunger is following it.

I'm not an expert on this subject and been studying it for awhile. I don't think you could plug the WUR's connector to the CSV. Physically it is not feasible with the OEM engine harness. Maybe you meant the other plug for the AFS. The WUR does not get energize until the FP operates unless there is an anomaly in the wiring set-up. Please advise. Thanks.

Pull all 6 fuel injectors and lines out of the manifold o-rings....turn key on..do the injectors spray or drip? If so turn the co adjustment screw counter clockwise until they stop..reinstall injectors..wait till fuel excess evaporates..try starting again..you probably will have to put cis gauges on fuel system to help us diagnose pressures...have fun...murf
