Pan damage.
Hey everyone,
I've seen a few 911's with pan damage in this location, mid A arm. ![]() ![]() Is this caused by bottoming out the front suspension? I don't believe the location makes it easy to repair. More of a cosmetic issue than anything. Curious, Tinker |

Could it be marks from jack or jackstands?

I thought about that and you may be right, but the damage looks like it occurred from impact due to the undercoating being stripped off as well as the seam damage.

That has to be damage from a "Jack Stand" or something similar...
If it was from the A-arm bottoming out it would look very different. The damage would be at the corner rather than further back like the photos posted. It always amazes me how older 911s seem to accumulate pan damage from so called "professionals" doing maintenance or repair work. If I had to guess that car looks like it was lifted on a table at those points for an alignment adjustment. I've seen scissor jacks used on a table before... I had my car aligned about 12 months ago. The tech doing the work asked if it was safe to use the area near the rear sway bars to lift my car. I appreciated the thought but if I wasn't there I suspect my car wouldn't have received so much consideration.

i have driven track cars that were lowered too much. They bottom out on the strut bump stops long before the arms can contact the chassis.
I would make sure there is no rust starting to form, then touch up the paint/undercoat. Last edited by dad911; 05-02-2009 at 03:50 AM.. |

Gotta be jack stands as you have identical damage on both sides, the marks are not consistent with A arm impacts in position, orientation, or type of damage, and, as others have said, you would bottom out on other suspension parts before tha arms.
