I mounted the MSD 8222 "Blaster" coil pictured above, in the factory bracket, upside down in the stock location. Works great. Put some black paint on that garish decal and it looks pretty "Boschish."

hey craig,
that contact in the second pic even looks cheap.
i have had problems with the beru wires when connecting to the sparkplug. i have had one or two that dont snap in, even after several tries, and even though i pulled on them, they felt like they were on, later i found they were just sitting there. this has only happened twice.

if you want a spare, just find a good used one or get an MSD as said above and keep using the original, after all, its just a spare.

I am going to test it again now that I got that plastic debris out of the way. Would that have caused the problem I was experiencing?

its hard to say. it looks like the coil wire would still make contact, but it is hard to say based on pics and with anything electrical, anything is possible.

Where can we get the Bosch coil (non-Brazilian)?

I don't believe you can buy a new, Bosch, non-Brazillian coil, at least not for my '82. There are three choices, a 25-30 year old coil, which could be in perfect condition and serviceable (or could be leaking oil), the new Bosch Brazilian coil, or the MSD Blaster 8222.

Or the fourth alternative is to convert the entire ignition system to something else.
