2000 Cab NOISY
Hi All,
I'm new here and hoping someone can help me out. I have a 2000 996 Cab and it's driving me crazy. The car was very quiet ( well, as quiet as a Porsche can be) with the top up until the end of last summer. One day I had the top down and when I put it back up the noise inside the cab sounded like the engine was sitting in the back seat. I literally had to check to see if there was a tear in the plastic window. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what did you to remedy it? My mechanic says it's normal, but I disagree. When I put the hardtop on the cab is as quiet as can be. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. |

Check the seals under the boot cover. My wife's 2002 was very loud but that was after a rear end accident. The cover wasn't closing properly.

Thanks, I'll take a look. I've opened and closed that top over and over and can't seem to locate where it's not making contact. Could you be a little more specific? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. Thanks again for your answer.

Make sure your sound deadening pad, in front of the engine is still securely in place. My cab has a significant engine sound difference, when the top is down vs up, but still a far cry from quiet.

Thanks. I'll check it out. Mine seems more quiet w/ the top down, if that makes any sense. With the top up, I'm not getting the "good" sound - just noise. You know what I mean.

There are two seals - a rubber piece that is in the boot and another that is on the bottom lip of the cover. Make sure they are secure and mating properly. If it isn't sealing properly it will probably leak water in the rain.
