Ode to Carb Cleaner
So pulled the 911 out of storage a week ago, and the poor old girl sounded like a tractor. pulled the plugs and gave them a clean, sprayed some carb cleaner and she's back in full song. Wonderful stuff. $4.99 tuneup :^)
My only question is, this carb cleaner seems such a powerful solvent, do I need to use this sparingly, am I going to eat away my carbs or anything else with it? I hopefully won't need anymore this season...but just curious if there are any negatives to carb cleaner?

You're right about it being a powerful solvent--that's why it works so well. If you are careful, you should not have any problems as it does tend to evaporate quickly. Keep it off of painted surfaces and some plastics too, which can be hard to do with a spray in the engine compartment. If you use it just for your carbs, you should be fine but remember, the solvent will remove the lubrication in the linkages so don't forget to keep them well lubed, including the ball sockets on the rods.

Thanks, that's a great point. White litheum grease for lube, or do you have any other suggestions?

White lithium should be fine for the ball sockets. Light engine oil for the pivot points on butterfly valves should be o.k.
