Fogged headlight fix
So I tried the old "rice and alcohol method" of de-fogging my H5s but got only marginal results. My buddy suggested we try some industrial grade coffee pot cleaner he had lying around. The stuff is aurora blue liquid restaurant equipment cleaner. I took each headlight and sat it lens-down on a table and poured this stuff in (full strength) until it filled the glass area of the assembly. I let it soak overnight. Then I took each unit to the sink and put some water in and shook vigorously for a bit. The stuff gets a bit sudsy so repeat as necessary to get the suds out. Then I poured a good bit of rubbing alcohol in and shook it a bit to help get the excess water out. At this point they were dramatically clearer. I then took a mens sock (thinner then an athletic sock but thicker then a dress sock) and carefully stuck it into the hole using a standard bamboo shish kabob skewer. If you are careful you can dry most of the inside of the assembly by moving the sock around with the skewer. I then stood the pair up and sat them in front of a fan so that it blew into the holes of each assy. overnight. I'm sure the sun would do a nice job of drying them but it has been raining here for 2 days.
The results? They are MUCH brighter and clearer. Very happy with results. |

Yes, the bottom listing is the stuff... Aurora Blue Liquid. I would bet that any commercial grade cleaner designed for things like glass coffee pots would work just as well.
Standby for pics. |

I had immediate and excellent results with the rice and alcohol method. I don't know if it matters for effectiveness, but I used 91% rather than the other readily available 70%, and bit of water. I was thinking about better evaporation. I then let the housings dry overnight, mostly to make sure the remaining rice grains were dry for the final shake-out.
Worked great.

Those look great!
I, too, use the higher percentage alcohol. Will have to look up and research your mentioned product,...see what's in it. Last time, I used a blow drier to get things nice and dry.......... Good work.... Best, Doyle

I would like to see what you learn concerning the ingredients. The bottle mentions only that it can irritate skin.
