Advice for an ex-checkbook mechanic.
OK, so I paid for the full rebuild last winter on my 82 SC and I'll be damned if my car sees another mechanic again! No dig on my mechanic, he did a great job on the motor. She runs good, and I feel I got what I paid for. The bill gave me fond memories of my first prostate exam.
![]() Heres my questions. When I picked the car up I was told that the o2 sensor was left disconnected, he explained it seemed to be the source of an idle hunt problem. We also had to plug up the vacuum hose to the decel valve, as the rpms were staying up between shifts and sometimes at idle. She was running rough at low rpms for the first few hundred miles. I read all about disconnecting o2 sensors on cis and knew this was part of the problem. Found the connectors and cleaned them up and replugged in the sensor. Car ran alot better, but still alittle rough at low rpm and cruising at under 3K rpm. New wires are on their way as is the oil filter to change out the break in oil. Decel valve is still plugged. Read about the vice squeeze fix, I'll try that, if that doesn't work, do I really need it? Ran a can of techron through the tank and the car has 675 miles on it now. Any thing else I should check on? It feels like a miss, but I cant hear it in the exhaust note. It doesn't shake you in the car but you can feel it. Second, I found a taped off two wire lead with a black plastic female connection on it. Anyone know where it should go? the colors are IIRC red/brn and blk with a black plastic connector. I'll post a pic if that will help. Don't think that's part of the issue, but wtf. 14K and taped wires? Any advice for things I should watch for on a new engine would be appreciated.
