Gone fishin? In the fuel tank?

I really hate when PO's don't do things right, and I think we all can agree on that. I had a stuck fuel sender and went to repair/clean it, things seemed wrong from the get go when I noticed the non-stock seal. I start to pull it out and the entire housing of the sender unit falls out and into the fuel tank.

So my dad and I went fishing with a claw and after tedious "ice fishing" and the fumes strengthening I was finally able to grab the little bugger and ended up having to deform the crap out of it just to get it out of the hole. Apparently the PO thought the nut at the bottom of the sender housing wasnt that important.

We put the perfectly fine sender unit itself back in to close the hole for the time being until the new sender arrives, and found out when I turned the car on that the sender was perfectly fine and it was the housing that was probably off center causing it to stick. Sigh.
