'79 911SC Curb Weight

For those of you who wonder how much their car weighs, I just had my car weighed for registration. I removed the spare tire, jack and all of the tools and the car came in at 2560 pounds. I was pretty amazed. With 180 HP, this gives me a power to weight ratio of .070 HP/lbs.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I have a sunroof and A/C delete with a half tank of gas. That should make a big difference.

Wow.. This should get interesting. I too have an upcoming SC project, a 78.
Car is euro with s/r and will also retain power windows and door speakers and the euro doors are noticeably lighter than the US version.

So, when I saw 2560lbs vehicle weight for a 79 I was kinda like woooo.. as my car was purchased in rather ratty condition but with a full Strosek body kit in place.. (fiberglass)1/4s, fenders, and bumpers front & rear. Minus tail. So it's already missing some weight.

Will also add fiberglass hood & a few other light weight tricks. Current diet plan has already ditched the mirrors, complete cruise control system, a/c and related harnesses to these all the way to the fuse box. Also dumped all stock seats, carpets, and sound deadening except the tar stuff in the floor. Will be using RS carpet kit but not sure what seats as yet. Will add some weight back in I guess with the rollbar (est 42lbs).
Wondering what the weight will be like but should be a fun build.. will start a thread when it really begins to move.

Paul

I have no sunroof, the A/C is out of my car. No pwr windows or mirrors. I do have a full stereo with speakers and a full interior. No jack, no spare, no tools. 6 and 7 fuchs with 205s and 225s.

BUT it was weighed in at 2560 pounds, no doubt about that.

For my '68 911 coupe:
Weight 2220#.

From a 1970 weighing

I'll weigh my '79 911SC coupe next week.
Has S/R, A/C, tools, etc.
I want to know.
While this 911 performs great, if it is 2800#, I think I will build one closer to 2000.

Best,
Grady

Wow, 2000 pound 911 would be awesome. You're body weight would add 10%. That is kinda messed up to think about. That's when you have to start thinking like a horse jockey.

The driver's manual of my '74 says it weighs 2370lbs. I have removed: original seats, spare tire, tools, compressor, jack, backseats and seatbelts, door pockets (probably 175lbs total). I have added: '83 SC engine, lightweight Recaro seats, 16" Fuchs, lightweight door panels. As long as the '83 SC engine and exhaust weighs close to or equal to the original 2.7, I think I've dropped a little weight from the listed 2370lbs. And after being pushed around by the 20mph winds today in Austin, I can tell you it sure feels light.

AC and sunroof on an SC is about 95 & 30. lbs. Trunk stuff about 50 lbs. 15" fuchs about 20 lbs less than 16's depending on tire and width.

My 85 w lighter AC than the SC's (aloy mount and smaller compressor), sun roof, 7&8 16's was 2750.

I just weighed my Euro '79 SC and it was 2400 pounds exactly. The car has no power options, no sunroof, and never had AC. I removed the air pump and weighed it without the spare tire/tools and with a quarter tank of gas. Everything is completely stock besides the smog pump removal.
