Dodged a bullet

I originally was going to post this in off topic, then decided it would be better suited in marketplace discussion. Then, I decided that this was important enough that everybody, especially those in the market for a Porsche, should read it.

And, it is a little technical anyways....

So here goes,

I was looking at a local 993 for sale, car looked really nice, the price was right, and the test drive went over well, the car cornered nicely, shifted smooth, ran great.

I was all set to jump on it, but I restrained myself, used my head, and took the advice of others on this board, and arranged a PPI.

Results of the PPI....not great, but not terrible either...That car had things wrong with it I didn't notice at first glance.

In the end, I ended up spending a little, but saving a lot.

I want to say a special thank you to all you pelicans who suggest a PPI before purchase SmileWavy

Sooooo, what exactly is wrong with the car again???

Kidding, sorry it didn't work out, hope to have a 993 someday myself.

Multiple items popped up on the PPI, certainly not a perfect 993, npr even close to it.

The hunt for an honest 993 continues...

Not to worry, I had my recommended 4 servings of sarcasm today.
I guess Carfax is apparently suspect these days as well, but regardless, anyone selling a vehicle, be it a dealer or a private individual should be able to provide a prospective buyer with the report upfront, from the word go.
But you've done a great service to all of use by illustrating the value of a PPI, just goes to show, the car could look stellar, but be a real mess in actuality.

Anybody in their right mind would run from that car, swiftly.

That's a great idea to provide a carfax when selling a car, it's only $30, and I'm sure the prospective buyer would appreciate it.

I had never gotten a PPI before for any car I purchased, whenever the place would give me a quote of $250 or more, I would cringe, but then again, considering what this car would have cost me to buy, I considered it a small fee compared to what I'd spend total. I'm now going to PPI all vehicles I consider purchasing...

And yeah, I really couldn't believe how true the saying is that you can't judge a book by it's cover...
