Question Elephant Racing Rear Polybonze Springplate Bushing Install Q

How tight should the rear polybronze bushing fit inside of the torsion tube? I've seen threads showing others using the springplate cover and bolts to tighten it down into the torsion bar tube fitting - mine insert by hand. Once they are inserted, I can also spin it by hand (grabbing and twisting with a small amount of force).

Instructions recommend using poly caulk if they spin. Do you think I should use some, and if so, what kind/where do I pick it up?

Thanks, Gordo

I'm in the process of finishing up my rear polybronze installation and ran into the same problem. Mine could be pushed in and removed by hand but had zero play once in place. I called Chuck Moreland at Elephant and he recommended that I use "DAP Polyurethane Premium Roof and Flashing Sealant" to glue in the bushings. You should be able to find it or a similar product at a hardware or home improvement wharehouse. I glued mine in and they are very secure. The caulk took a while to set up and cure. It remained tacky for a few days which made me wonder if it was going to work. I came back to the project a week later and all was good. The PB installation has been tricky so far and very labor intensive. I think this is due to the fact that you are installing a precision part into a non-precision application. After installing the PB's I can see why the factory designed rubber bushings. Once everything was custom fit and shimmed up it feels beautiful but many hours spent here...........

Cool

Thanks TT, I will do the same.

Man... Sounds like we are working the same project, on nearly the same time line, but you are slightly ahead of me (working out in my favor )

Don't know how you feel, but my suspension upgrade has been a long road (addressing everything that the suspension is normally in the way of). Its spring, nice weather, and killing me. Must wrap it up! Purge the thought of any more "while I'm at it" ideas.

Trip to my second home(s), - Lowes/Home Depot for some poly caulk tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Gordo

I glued mine in 2+ years ago. I think the bearing unit operates so smoothly it doesn't take much to keep the polybronze piece from turning in the tube.
