Question Annoying issue with mirror and door. HELP PLEASE

HI I have an 1984 911 coupe. My drivers side power mirror is loose. Not at the base where it attaches to the door, but where the mirror folds in. Has anyone ever attempted to fix this? I was told I need to pop the mirror glass out to tighten a hollow bolt inside?? but I'm not sure how to do it.

Question #2:My passenger door rattles. It doesn't seal tight like the drivers side. The strike plate looks to be in good shape, as does the pin that latches into it, but if you push on the door from the outside, there is definite play in it. How do I know what needs replacing? I checked to see everything was tight.

Thanks for any help on this!

I have an SC, but it sounds as if the mirror mechanism may be the same. The mirror glass is held in by some plastic nubs and just pulls out. If you tilt it fully one way (left or right) and then pull a bit, you should be able to see how it attaches. It should just pull free, just be gentle. There is a hollow bolt inside that compresses a spring, giving stiffness to the mirror.

As far as the door rattle goes, you may need to replace your door hinge pins and bushings (available at pelican of course!). I had a similar issue and new pins and bushings did the trick. If the door has up/down play while open then these are most likely the culprit. You may need to shop around a bit to find a shop that feels comfortable with this job, I found even some reputable shops had comments like "that's not like a chevy door hinge at all!" which hurried my exit. The bushings come slightly undersized and need to be drilled out (they are brass I believe) to fit the pins. That said, your door rattle may just be a striker plate adjustment, but if the door closes well, I would look at the bushings and pins.

Hope that helps and good luck!

The mirror tightens up from the bottom side. What you heard is wrong. There are several threads here on how to do this and in a couple of different ways.

OK so I have to remove the door panel and tighten it from inside?

No, you remove the mirror from the door. The hollow bolt is at the swivel.
