driver side window jumping track. Need some information

My driver side window came out of its track. I took of the panel and placed it back in the track but it popped right back out when I rolled down the window. I did a search but have a couple of questions.
1. Is the window held in the track only by an adhesive or is there an additional fastner?
2. Is the an acceptable adhesive that can be used that can be obtained from local part stores like Advance Auto, NAPA, etc?

It is an 86 coupe.

Thanks in advance.

I rebuilt both windows on my '81 SC last year due to the same problem; the glass sits in a piece of "U" shaped rubber which in turn sits in a metal track (which typically rusts away over time as the felt trim at the base of the window ceases to act like a squeegee). I did not see any trace of adhesive at the base of the metal track, I think everything is a friction fit. Actually, I recommend using soapy water to get the rubber trim onto the bottom of the glass...

Mine popped out as well. the metal track was in good shape but the rubber was fatigued. I put them back together using some type of rubber adhesive (cant remember) on both the metal /rubber connection and rubber/glass connection. Its been a couple of years no problem.

I used 3M trim adhesive (available at most auto parts stores) when I replaced a regulator and the rubber "U" piece. Worked like a charm!

Thanks for the replies. I will remove the panel again and take a look at the rubber more carefully.

It looks like a need the new rubber channel. Can someone help me with a part number or the proper name so I can order it. I have looked through several pages with no luck.

I used $5 tube of clear silicone from Autozone. has held for about 3 years now. Knock on wood. :)

This is more for anyone who has to do this in the future. I received the rubber channel from pelican and installed it. However, the window continued to slip out of its track. I removed the track, cleaned out the old adhesive and applied RTV. I used weatherstriping adhesive to attach the channel to the window. I know that it is supposed to be a gravity fit, but do not want to have to pull the door panel of again. Then rolled the track up and guided the bottom of the window into the track. Let it set up overnight and it seems to be fine now.
Thanks for everyone help and advice. I appreciate it.
