My Custom Roll Bar by Hollywood Motorworks

Yee-haw! So ever since I was a kid watching the Dukes of Hazzard, it was my perception that real race cars had roll bars.

Some years later...

it becomes necessary for some sort of harness installation. As well, with track days and such being what they are, realistically some extra protection can't be all that bad. However, finding the right combination of street/track/design elements can be tricky and expensive.

Through friends and other friends, I was introduced to Tim Gregorio and John Bowman at Hollywood Motorworks. They are fantastic fabricators and resto guys for Hollywood stunt/hero movie cars and whatever else you can imagine. I may sound like an advertisement right now, but these guys have an upstart shop and I really dig their work.

I have an autox on Sunday, and these guys worked their mutual asses off to get me set up with a new roll bar and harness install in time for the event. I had quite a few requirements for the job too... I'm tall, wanted to maintain use of the stock 3-point belts for the street, wanted to keep as much of the interior in tact as possible. They even looked up PCA rules to make sure everything would be up to spec. Here's some pics of the final stages of work and a couple cars in the shop.

Because of the upcoming autox event, I'll have to wait to get it powder coated. Will have to remain raw chromoly for now.

Bad guy "F-Bomb" replica from "Fast and Furious"

This is the Charger that was wrecked in "Fast and Furious", then rebuilt by Tim and John for a client/collector.

At home and happy.

That bar looks beautiful Derek! I may stop by tomorrow morning and say hi (as of right now I'm not signed up). Btw, Asa at TRE re-did my bar to make it substantially taller and all but completely close up the space between the bar and the top. Much better now.

Thanks, Scott. I just picked up some padding, so that's one of my projects today. If you stop by tomorrow you can check out their handywork. Is registration closed? You should sign up!

I like Tim ... he's a good guy with a lot of talent and a good attitude.

The next time I need some serious fab work he'll be getting a call from me for sure.

And 7th overall... even though I thought my timed runs weren't that great.
