Possible New Porsche Owner

Hello All,

I am currently looking into purchasing my first Porsche. I have had very little experience with the vehicle and quite honestly have admired from afar for quite some time now. As I do not know anyone that owns a Porsche or any enthusiasts for that matter I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice or helpful tips on what to look for when buying. I am currently looking into purchasing a 2006 911 Carrera, 3.6L 325HP motor. The car is extremely clean and has close to 38,000 miles.

Are there any things I should be looking for when test driving or looking over the car?

Does anyone know of any major problems or maintenance nightmares with this year?

Can anyone give me a rough idea on what yearly maintenance costs on the car might be?

Sorry for the 50 questions but I love having plenty of information and this seemed like the best place to ask.

Thanks for your help!

Welcome. I am not up to speed on that model. I have a 75 911. You are at the right place and several people will offer up lots.

Most will suggest an independent PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection).
Someone local to you could probably recommend a good shop to take it to for the inspection.
Good luck!

The 996 and 997 forum here probably does not get the traffic as it might on Rennlist. You may get more specific advice there from other owners of similar models. This particular BBS is centered on air cooled 911's but many here also have newer ones that could possibly help. I think if I had a 996/997 I'd be on Rennlist forum. But welcome anyway and good luck with your search. The PPI advice is a must and service records of the car you want would be a bonus.

I am in Charleston if you need any help or would like to check out mine for comparison. Mine being an older air-cooled 84' Carrera.
