Oil Return Tube O Rings

My oil return tubes are bleeding oil at an alarming rate, so I ordered some replacement o rings from PP. The PO had installed collapsible return tubes so I was just going to install new o rings. I just pulled the two tubes on the passenger side and the o rings are red, instead of green like the ones I recieved. As expected, the large sides are the same. The problem is the two smaller ones are much larger than the ones I removed. The tube won't even slide over the new o rings. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to what I might have?

Thanks
Chris

are the tubes thin, gold anodized steel? the smaller green o-rings that fit those tubes need silicone paste to be able to slide. oil doesn't work. same on the outers on installation.

No they are unfinished steel, and covered in oil and grime .

yeah, those are the crappy aluminum variety. hard to get the inner rings for them, other than generic black noeprene, which doesn't last. toss 'em and get the steel, gold anodized ones.

That would make sense as to why the new o rings don't fit. I didn't even think to pull them and check before I ordered the o rings. Thanks.

What John Walker said about silicone grease to lube the o-rings, oil doesn't work. Any silicone grease will work. They're a bear to install, but hose clamps on them helps you with something to push against. You'll know when they seat.

I had a similar problem with my return tubes. Like you, I ordered the o-rings before I took out the tubes. Mine had different ends than yours though. (pics below)

I dont think mine were leaking in the middle, so I reused the old o-rings with some silicon.

pics of mine ...

thats the same tubes i have. i was wondering about the smaller o rings. i guess i will just toss them, well storethem, and get the solid tubes, i would rather have them anyway.

My tubes are not leaking from the center either. I considered trying to reinstall the tubes with new end o rings, and just leave the centers. I know this may not be the best plan, but I don't have the $ for new tubes at the moment, and this would let me get my car out of the garage.
