Porsche Crest Widest Fuch wheel to fit on 1967 911?

I was fortunate to purchase an original Olive 1967 911. It has the original 4.5x15inch Fuchs. Unfortunately there is no spare tire or wheel. The original wheels appear to be unobtainable unless you spend a small fortune. I am therefore looking for an alternative Fuch to carry as a spare. I thought the 5.5x15 would be a great alternative, yet they also seem difficult to locate. So I need your help in determining whether a 6x15 inch Fuch will fit without rubbing or body damage. I would entertain the idea of a steel wheel but am unsure as to what sizes are available. All fenders are stock width and original. Help me! Before I spend a lot of money on a spare wheel. Has anyone tried fitting larger wheels without problems? Is there anyone out there in the universe making a replica? I assume that as the vehicle was fitted originally with the Fuchs that the spare should be a Fuch also. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks for your replies!
Bob

wheels

Im exactly not sure if your problem is wheels or tires you could get a space space tire wheel combo saver for little money. My 912 originally came with 14.5x5 Fuchs and had space saver from the factory.

Check www.thesamba.com for spare 14.5 x5 Fuch, its a lot of VW people on there who use the 14.5" and there are often both real and replica Fuchs on the wheels section in classifieds.

15X6 Wheels will fit comfortably on your car, well paired with readily available 205 60 15

Bob, I would consider a 5.5 steel wheel only because it adds a little more weight up front and low than a Fuchs will, which should help SWB handling.

I have a few of these wheels, would want $65 + shipping. If you want me to bead blast it to bare metal for you, I can for an extra $30.

On my 66 I had 6 x 15 with the 205 60 15 added spacers in the front to keep from rubbing on the inner fender well in a tight parking lot type turn, also added about 8mm to the rear just to make it fill out the wheel well like the 68 spacer.
Currently running 6 x 16 with 205 55 16's on all 4 corners but rolled the rear lip a bit in the rear,

Regards

14" Fuchs make good affordable (and light) spare wheels/tires. Also - steel wheels were used on many cars for spare wheels/tires - even those that came with 4 Fuchs.

Hi,

Can you post a pic of the Olive car? Really like to see that "in person", rather than just on a color chart.

I own several 67's... If you don't want to spend up for an original wheel, I would put in a steel 4.5 or 5.5 wheel. Easily found on ebay, samba etc. You could also do a wtb ad here for one.

In an answer to your question, yes a 6" fuchs fits fine, as to widest wheel, you can run a 911R 7" on the back with a 225/50 tire by shaving some of the spring plate bolt, rolling the fender lips and throwing in a little camber

cheers,
Eric

To answer your question, my car (67S) has 5 Fuchs, it's only one data point
but it suggests that a car supplied with Fuchs had 5 of them from the factory,
anybody else care to chime in?

Quick question;
Wouldn't there be a problem running a 14" wheel and a 15" wheel or any different configuration of wheels or tires at the same time on the rear ???

Not if the outer diameter of the 14" and 15" tire are the same (or close). For example - if both 14" tire and 15" tire have a 25" outer diameter then it's no problem.

Also - if your front tires and rear tires are the same diameter, and your spare is a larger or smaller diameter tire - move the regular front tire to the rear, then mount the spare on the front.
