Picture did not work on 1st post.
This is out of a 1976 911s with a 78 3.0L engine. Removed from the cam chain cover upper right on driver's side. Has two electrical spades one wide, one narrow connects to wiring harness with rubber boot cover. Looks like a oil temp sender to me, could it be the sender for the idiot (no jokes) light? The gauge sender so far as I know has one spade and is on the passenger side of the engine. Any help would be appreciated.

Correction it was on the upper LEFT of the driver's side cover.

That's your thermotime switch, which enables power to activate the cold start valve (the seventh injector) on your fuel system during a cold start. It's an expensive item to replace.
If you're running carbs, it's all moot. Brian

And a gold star for you! Thank you a bunch...I'm new to the game, so your help is invaluable. You are correct, at $150+ I will handle carefully.
Thank you again for the information!
