R-compound Tires and 79 Targa
Can a 79 SC Targa handle the stress of using R-compound tires for DE's. Someone told me that a Targa cannot handle the stress and would pop the doors open and break the back window under hard corners. Is there any truth to this? Does anyone track (DE's) a targa using R-compound tires?
thought I would ask the experts, thanks |

I've never heard that.
I run them last year with no problems. Now there is a little more flex in a Targa than a coupe. This winter I did had a custom rollbar with door bars to address what little flex there was. 84 Targa |

I'd like to find a set of R compounds that would stick half as well as that story
![]() Targa's and Cab's run in DE's (cab's with a roll bar) with R's all the time and won't blow out a window or pop a door. (Unless the car is so rusted out it shouldn't be on the street in the first place. )
