Post Fuel leak in chacoal cannister

Hi I have a leak in my fuel cannister in left fender. Can you just cap it at the T or will that cause venting problems.. I am going to my first DE this weekend I thought the gas cap gasket would fix the problem but nooo! Thanks Wayne..PS Do you really need that cannister anyhow..

When I got my 70 - 911 it would always stink of gas after a fill up. I found the reservoir under the front right fender was broken so I pulled the whole ventilation system out including the charcoal canister and capped off the vent line from the tank. No smell - works OK.
