I've got a 76 911s with a 78 3.0L engine. It is smog legal in California and recently passed the smog inspection with flying colors. So as I was retiming the engine after my successful tensioner upgrade (thanks all for the assistance), I had the smog pump belt off with the engine running in order to safely get at the distributor hold down nut. As I timed the engine I wondered if there would be any mechanical/ignition/CIS problems or residual issues (notwithstanding the ARB) by not putting the smog pump belt back on the car?

I think you run a good chance of burning up your egr valve if the pump isn't hooked up. And from what my brother told me they are hard to find....
