I plan to have installed steel RS rear flares on my 72 911. Can this be done and still retain the use of the original rear bumpers and bumperettes and end up with a good fit to the flares? If so, how? I have a steel S spoiler on the front and my objective is to retain the original bumpers front and rear if possible because I like the look. Otherwise, I will go with the RS fiberglass bumpers. The car has a 3.2 motor and is set up for DE and autocross. I need to flare the fenders so that I can use larger rear tires. Your thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

The key to the answer is in your question when you wrote, "...and end up with a good fit to the flares?" The stock rear bumpers will not fit well unless they are modified to flare out where they meet the fender. I have seen pictures on the board where bumpers have been modified, but have not seen the steps involved--I'm sure someone will post about it. Once in a while, there are bumpers (steel) offered for sale that are flared. You may wish to post a Want To Buy ad and see if you can pick up a set, or have yours modified, or, as you stated, go with the fiberglass.

I had to get my steel rear bumpers flared to match. You need a good body guy. It's much cheaper to get fibreglass bumpers.
