Oil Cooler Housing Leak - Picture

For weeks I have been trying to find the leak coming from the direction of the internal oil cooler. Replaced all cooler seals, all top seals, finally replaced the actual oil cooler. In the process of taking out the oil cooler > takes me now about 14 min with engine in and not dropped < i realized that the upper screw was always a bit loose. Tighten it as always...

Two days ago, the oil started running again. In the final analysis, I conclude that the upper screw is at fault, as all other oil streams appear fine. The white stuff you see is fire extinguisher powder I used to track down the leak.

What is the best method of fixing this leak? Ideally I would not want to re-thread the hole but instead put some sealant into it. Is that possible? What is behind this cooler housing?

Thanks for your suggestions.
Jacob

Greetings:

Possibly a good cooper washer & loctite....& JB WELD for reinforcement...

Hope for the best...

My front oil cooler was leaking from the bottom bolt. Almost impossible to take off w/out damaging the front valence and making a serious mess. I used JB/Weld and let it sit for a few days. It worked, but i did see some oil line come thru the thread...Just reinforced another big coat of JB/Weld and hope for the best..

Good Luck.

Walt.

I think that is one of your case through bolts. There is an O ring seal underneath the large washer... replace it.

Cheers
