'89 Cruise control cable break/Fix?

My 1989 cruise control cable has lost the barrel end connection (attached to the cable) at the actuator end for the throttle body...it just broke off.

Have ye' gents a quick fix ,..? Or must I just lay down the ~$200 for a new CC cable..?

I would imagine one could get a "barrel" of sorts (even the original?) ,..drill it,..then crimp,...BUT where would you get the necc. cable slack for the adjustment?

Enlighten me...

Thanks,

Doyle

I don't know the exact answer, but couldn't you cut back the cable just a little and install an extension using a cable coupler ?

A few plastic tie wraps should do the trick.

'87-'89 Carreras used an electric CC servo...but, the cable might work.

You could try some of that epoxy putty stick stuff that you find in the plumbing section of your hardware store. It sticks to just about anything and sets up rock hard. Mold it around the barrel end connection, make it look pretty, and no one will know Just make sure everything is set, because that adjusting nut will never move again!

I don't quite see what I'm after in the photo. I already have tie wraps holding the plastic piece within the metal framework (feedthru),...My worries are at the barrel end break off at TIP of cable....did I miss something here?

Best,

Doyle

The inside cable here can be replaced with good old bicycle cable. Your local bike shop can attach a "barrel" connector to either or both ends for you.

I pulled the cable out a bit. Cut about 1/4 inch off of the outer cover. Then put one of these on the end of the cable. I forgot where I got it at, perhaps in the lawn mower section of Sears.

EDIT: I think I bought it at Kragen auto parts.
