Porsche Backed Into
What a day!!!
Here I was minding my own business, getting ready to order lunch when I noticed that someone backed into my lovely little SC. ![]() Luckily, the guy was honest enough to give me his insurance and not drive off. Damage wasn't horrible but bad enough to matter. The lower front fender, door, and rear fender were all hit. All were bad enough to require body work and repaint. The whole driver side of the car is going to have to be repainted. This really sucks because though my paint was not perfect it was a good example of a clean 30 year old car. I know they are not going to be able to match the paint exactly and now the whole value of the car has been degraded. Some of my friends have said that I should attempt to get the insurance to repaint the whole car because of this but I think this is something they will most likely not do. Overall, a very frustrating event envoked the need to do a little "venting"!

I agree with your friends.
Ask. The worst they can do is say no. With your line of reasoning I don't think you're very far out of line. I know I would be asking. What color are they going to have to try to match?

Its the black metallic clear coat, a difficult color to match I would imagine!

I always settle for the check, never just the work. I find I can do better on my own with the money in hand. |

Aiyaa! So sorry to hear about your misfortune!
I worry about this very thing. 82 SC with low mileage, I now wish I'd bought something that didn't feel like I'm messing with history or screwing up the value of an original example if I do what I really want to do (and this complex with one of the most basic 911s available). Well, maybe events like this are for the best, in a "why we got a Porsche in the first place" kind of way. These things are about driving, not about looking. I met a guy at a recent PCA (yeah, sorry) event that was driving a 2007 GT3. Several of the PCAers present asked him if he kept the car climate controlled, and how many miles he had on it, and if he had "professional care" for its appearance. He said "If I want to see a pretty, low mileage Porsche, I'll go to a dealership. I just want to drive it." The GT3 had 30,000 miles on it. That kind of woke me up about what I really wanted from the car. I now have a few goodies on order from our host, the SSIs and exhaust are next, along with lowering, turbo tie rods, refinishing the Fuchs the way I want them, and whatever else is going to make me feel good in my SC. Oookay, this is way too much crap about Matty K., sorry...I hope your experience turns out well, and you perhaps find the freedom now to do all the things you might have wanted to do to yours, as well! I'd also press hard with the insurance company to to a proper re-paint. This ain't a Chevy.
