1971 911T Charging question
Had an auto electrician over yesterday to sort out my indicator issue which he duly did. He went away and I then decided to move the car
started it up and the ignition light did not go out. I checked across the battery and it was reading about 16 volts which is too high at tickover. When I revved the car it goes up into the 17's and takes some time to start to drop back even when ticking over. All worked fine before the indicators were sorted out yesterday and the electrician did say it was a wire that had been connected to earth so he removed it. I have searched on here but haven't found any similar situation. Would this issue indicate a voltage regulator problem, I could understand it from the voltage reading point of view but any clues why the ignition light won't go out. The ignition was left on for some time when the guy was checking the wiring, could this have caused any damage Can anyone suggest what I should check before I go in search of a voltage regulator as I am told it is a motorolla one and not available from the porsche main agent. |

I can't answer your questions, but I can tell you Pelican sells external voltage regulators, and they're not expensive:

got home from work and fiddled around with the wires behind the clock and now the light goes off however the voltage is still reading 17v.
the regulator has the following on it SEV Marchal made in france with a no. 72711502 14v and a date of 07 88. Can anyone confirm whether I the regulator made by valeo pelican parts no. 911-603-901-00-M262 is the right replacement. It has the correct terminals. |

The regulator must match the alternator. Confer with the folks at Pelican before you purchase. Electrical parts are usually not returnable.
