Should I use spacers with these wheels?
 

I have stock 16x6 and 16x7 Fuchs. The front wheels look great and come out to the edge of the wheel well. The rear wheels are inset a bit and don't look right to me. Should these wheels be in this far? If I keep the current set up and don't go to a wider set of wheels, should I use spacers on the 16x7s to pull them out a bit and what width spacer would be best?

I run 1-1/4 inch spacers on my 7's on the SC rear. also 2.75 degrees neg camber. I have a set of 1-1/8 inch spacers if you're interested. would work if you run less neg camber. Don.

I used 21mm spacers on my 1987 with 7" wheels on the rear. You will need to install longer studs

David, I am running spacers on my 6 and 7s. I have a cassis red '87 coupe with painted Fuchs like yours. Wheel wells are better filled out with spacers or 7 and 8s if you want to part with more $.

I just finished putting adapters on the car. Looks great and they were really simple to get on the car--about a 20-30 minute job. These are H&R 1 1/8" (~28mm) hub-centric adapters.

The first photo shows the left wheel. After looking at the photos, I can see how sloped my driveway really is--this wheel is highest so its has the least clearance of the two. I think it works well. I've noticed, however, that the left flare doesn't come out as far over the wheel--you can really see this in the rear shot. The car had a dent in that flare when I bought it (recently repaired) and it might not be to original shape (though it looks great to the eye). I've heard that these cars are rarely perfectly symmetrical in the rear--true?

In any case, I'm glad I put these on--definitely a big improvement over the unspaced 7x16 Fuchs in the rear wheelwell.

Very nice. That minor change definitely improved the look. Its prompted me to consider getting spacers for mine. I'm running the same size wheels on my '75.

What size tires are you running with those? The sizes look very close to what I'm running - 205/55 & 225/50.

Thanks--yes, I'm running 205/55, 225/50. I've had Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on the car for about two years and really like the tire. I think there's a new version of the Pilot Sport A/S available now. Got em at Costco--they run a $60 off 4 Michelin tire sale twice a year.

I ran 25mm (1") spacers for years with 7x16's. Def, def, def looks better.

looks good. an easy and cheap solution to a problem. these cars are rarely/never perfectly symmetrical. I think a lot has to do with slightly uneven suspension ( bushing ) wear. probably has more to do with how many steins of lager Horst had before picking up the spot welder after lunch. keep in mind, american cars of the period had VERY liberal standards. I'm a bodyman and I see a lot of factory shims in american iron, even in much newer cars. tough to find ANY shims in a 911.

First of all....let's differentiate "adaptors" ( spacers with studs attached, and 5 new offset holes for the original wheel studs)...and "spacers".....which use the original studs but should be changed to be longer.
