I love it when an anticipated problem job goes easy...
I found a broken CV joint bolt the other day. So, up on the lift she went yesterday.....I helped a buddy go thru the pain once of doing this on his, so I expected the worst. A broken easy-out didn't help then.
At any rate, I lucked out. Instead of having to remove the CV and fiddle with removal, I was able to stick a small flat screwdriver into the CV joint hole and actually drive the broken threads out the back side. Since I had the CV bolts in stock :D, it took all of 15 minutes including checking the others. This partially makes up for some of the "simple" jobs that went bad. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1243799729.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1243799751.jpg |
Just curious...
What brand of lift is that and how high is the ceiling in your garage ??? Can you tell me the overall dimensions of your setup as i've been thinking of getting one ! I have a 10 ft ceiling ... Thank you ! Phil |
My ceiling is 9'6", the lift is probably up 48" in the pic. It goes to about 54", which is higher than you could ever need to go, unless you're a leprechaun.
The lift is about 42" wide X 84" long, probably 66" wide to the outside of my ramps, which are 10' long. |
Well done on the simple fix but.... How did you check the other bolts?
(assuming you didn't remove them)... Please remove the other bolts and check them on your bench. Make sure they're straight and the threads are good. If you find any that are not 100% remove all (24) and replace with brand new as necessary. I hate to be negative but if one bolt broke what are the chances the others are fine? FYI: I did a major service inspection on my car just after I bought it. One of the things I checked were the CV bolts as I was aware of the problems these can have. They looked fine installed but after removing a few to check I found that some of the bolts were kinked and bent. As a result I serviced the CVs and replaced all 24 bolts... |

I'm probably going to replace the 1/2 shafts in July, as I don't know when the CV's were last serviced, if ever. Quote:

If I had a garage like that, I'd never make it to my day job. And, my wife would've left me a long time ago.
