engine exchanges at rebuild time?
 

There is no way I want to wait for my car for 3 months while someone rebuilds the engine. Do any places have a rebuildable swap out? you can purchase a rebuilt 3.2 or 3.0 (the common ones are the best bet), and trade yours in. Therefore you don't waste all the time waiting for the car back.

Kurt, that is one of those things that are just up in the air no matter what you do. Doing a correct rebuild of your motor will more than likely cost more than a used motor.
The problem is that you might end up with a motor that is no better off than the one you need to rebuild.

It's a toss up.

I thought about doing a swap since it would be cheaper and faster...but there were just too many risks for me.

Leland, but the idea would be for them to give me a motor that is freshly rebuilt in exchange for mine for the cost of rebuilding mine...but I know that's very unrealistic!
You've been out your car...hell I don't even know how long. I remember reading the post that you discovered pulled or broken studs and that you were tearing it down, but it seems like...what october or november?!
(Of course I am very jealous of the contents under "Porsche engines" in your brain now and definitely could use the information you can only obtain in a full rebuild)

Stoddard's used to have an engine exchange program pretty close to what you described ... but I don't think you will like their prices! And, no, I don't know any more about it, or prices, or even if it still exists!

Kurt, DON'T EXCHANGE YOUR MOTOR!!!! A friend of mine exchanged his 3.2 for a freshly rebuilt one and the car hasn't ran the same since. On top of that, it was more of a hastle and more expensive than to rebuild his motor. And you loose the matching engine numbers. Although the new motor is rebuilt, you don't know the history of it, so your running a risk. Rebuild your motor and find a friend with a spare Porsche that he'll let you drive while your engine is being rebuilt!

Sorry Kurt...I misinturprited your post.

Yes it was last June that I discovered the snapped stud. And I have been out of my car since 3 Dec. 2000 @ about 10:30am.
GOD I HATE NOT HAVING MY BABY!

And it is looking like my pistons and cylinders will not be reusable after all.
So now I am really in a bind!
