Bent retractable antenna -easy to replace?
Bent the antenna. Retractable antenna, 84 Euro Cab. Don’t ask how, I just did.
The Bentley Carrera Manual says “The radio antenna is integrated into the windshield. In the event of antenna failure the windshield must be replaced.” Well, it isn’t in the windshield. It used to retract but it doesn’t anymore. Can I just replace just the mast with a Hirschmann antenna from one of the suppliers? (Pelican?) How do I do it? Poor thing looks kind of sad and my car cover sticks up kind of funny. Please help -Andy |
If by retractable you mean a power antenna, you can easilly replace the mast with a Hirschman (assuming your car still has the factory Hirschman motor assembly). Loosen the nut on the base of the antenna at the fender and remove it. Have an assistant turn on the radio so the antenna tries to extend. Pull hard upward on the mast as this occurs. The long plastic toothed tube that engages the motor gear to raise and lower the antenna will come out. Pull until it and the mast are free.
Feed the new plastic tube into the hole. You will have to rotate it until you find its "catch" while an assistant turns the radio off every time so the motor pulls the mast in. Allow it to pull the mast in and then replace the nut. Turn on/off a few times for it to position itself. Good Luck.
