Rebuilt Bosch CD box??

Well, call me a sucker if you like. I replaced my faulty stock CD box with a Permatune. It failed right away. They replaced it and I added a new blue coil. Now after several thousand miles it appears the latest box is failing also.
I'd like to hear reports on the rebuilt Bosch unit advertised here on Pelican. I dont think I still have the old core. Anyone have one of those for my '80?
Thanks, Don

PM "ischmitz." I think Ingo rebuilds CDI units. Systems Consulting...Automotive Electronics also rebuilds them.

Not to redirect you from your wish to use a Bosch unit, but you did mention using a "brand new blue coil." IIRC, Permatune requires you use a Permatune coil with their units--could this be what is failing?

Thanks ossi, I'll look into that. What I need is a trustworthy setup for reasonable $$$. What about MSD?

I am using an MSD in my '83SC. We are unable to get the tach to read even with the special MSD unit to provide signal to the tach. Other than that, it works rather well. It is my own opinion to stay away from Perma(J)unk. PO put one in my car right before we bought it with one of their coils. Did not last 10,000 miles. Burned up the coil. Unit tested as good. Burned up next coil in less than 100 miles. Unit tested as good. It is now the back-up I keep in my car with a blue coil that is unknown quality. I would like to get back to a Bosch, but my car has been without the Bosch unit for more than a decade.
