NJ shop recommendations
OK, So I replaced the shifter bushings over the weekend. The good news is that there is a more positive shift response with less slop. The bad news is the car still wants to pop out of 1st gear when going from a stop. So it looks like maybe it is the dog teeth. Can anyone in the Jersey area recommend a good shop and does anyone have an idea what a job like this would cost? Thanks

REALLY good independent Porsche-only shop in northern NJ:
Powertech 311 West Main Street Rockaway, NJ 07866 Phone: 973.586.3210 http://www.pwr-tech.com/ I really can't guess at the cost, as I don't know what's causing it to want to pop out of 1st gear. I suggest giving Mike & the folks at Powertech a call - they've helped me diagnose things & get an idea of $$ before bringing the car in. |

Bodymotion in Ocean. Labor prices are very affordable.

Try Protosport in Pompton plains 973-839-5353 ask for Paul or John.
They are all good shops I know them all and have used them and more but for true performance mods I would give them a try although they are reasonable for most all work. Better yet call and speak to each one before you decide. Different personalities in each shop and that is usually the key to getting what you want. For this work any of them will do a good job.

+1 for Bodymotion. They rebuilt my 3.2 engine last year. It runs great, much stronger, and used less than quart of oil in 2200 miles this year. Before the rebuild it was a quart every 250 miles.

They all have pretty solid reputations. I have been pushing Porsches in the area for the last 25+ years and have had good experiences with Mike and Kieth at Powertech and also with Gene at ********.
******** is closer to my home so I work with Gene more often. I really like the way he runs the shop. If you are mechanical and want to do some of the work yourself you may be able to work out something with Gene where you take the day off, pay for lift time, and pull your own engine/trans for them to do the rebuild. That way you can bond with your car.
