Start Up after 8 month storage
 

1st, Pelican and this BB are wonderful. Thank you for all the great knowledge.

I have a 1986 911 that's been stored in my garage for 8 months. It's been up on blocks and under two covers. About 1/8 of a quart of oil leaked out while it's been sitting. I changed the oil, adjusted the valves, pulled the battery, and had about 1/4 of a tank of gas in it before I stored it. Please go ahead and rip me a new one for not filling it up before I stored it (my bad). I didn't expect to be laid off for so long!

So, I've sold the motorcycle and got my priorities straight (GET THE 911 BACK ON THE ROAD).

What do I need to do to get this thing started back up? I'll trickle charge the batt, but I'm not sure about anything else. I was thinking of pulling the distributor cap and cranking it for a minute or so just to get some oil in the engine, but I'm really not too sure.

Suggestions? Input? Your knowledge is very much appreciated...

Sounds like you did a pretty good job so far. Cranking the engine over without starting is a good idea.

8 months isn't really that long but I would still do a good visual check of all 4 wheels/tires/brakes as well as checking the brakes as best you can before tearing off in the car.

And get some new gas in her ASAP.:D

Thanks for the feedback and support. I didn't get a job (yet), but I'm working on a start up, so that's something. I simply decided to liquidate everything I could (bicycles, motorcycles, surround sound system, etc.) and concentrate all of my efforts on one thing, my 911. This I am very much looking forward to drive again. Nothing provides the smiles-per-miles like the 911. They're just simply incredible!

I know what you mean. I was laid off in Feb. and then again in May.

The 911 has been a great way to excercise some mental stress away.

We too have cut expenses. In fact, we just cancelled our cable and I'm hooking up the HD convertor box right now.

Yeah, I know what you mean. We canceled the cable long ago, went to an Internet phone, wife is working as much as she can, I'm selling stuff for people (cars, flea markets, etc.). It's really tough out there right now. That's why I'm simply giving up for now and starting my own business with another laid off friend (keep an eye out for the Association of Investment Researchers).

Here's a pic. of me at an autocross a few years back. Lot's of fun, but once I did a track day, all autocrossing become somewhat boring (of course, a lot of things get boring after going 135 mph in to turn one!).

pull the plugs, squirt some marvel mystery oil in the cylinders, crank some to get oil pressure up , drain old fuel, fill up with fresh fuel and start her up! change oil after 1000 miles.
