BMW Roundel I'm in the process of rebuilding my 3.0l 1978 euro engine

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 3.0l 1978 euro engine I saw some oil on the top rear of the engine and was wondering if anyone could tell the me what could be a possible cause.

The typical 3 -

Crank case breather gasket
Oil pressure switch
Oil cooler thermostat o-ring

In your picture, that's clockwise from top to bottom. Do them all anyway while it's out. ~$15 in parts.

That is amazingly clean for a 1978. Good time to replace all those cheap parts to avoid more leaking in the future. Wayne has a chapter on "common oil leaks" in his 101 books and it talks about all of those parts.

If your doing a full rebuild then all those gaskets in question will be in your gasket kit.
