Unhappy Quiet early muffler options, with a wrinkle

I have a 1970 911T with a muffler I would generously describe as custom. It's visually and audibly too loud, and I'm trying to figure out what my options are.

A wrinkle is that my rear valance no longer has a cutout for an exhaust outlet such that I don't think I can just buy a stock muffler without cutting something. Is that accurate or does the stock outlet fit underneath the valance...?

Another wrinkle is that I'm going to do my valves, timing, ignition, and carbs and I only want to do it once. I fear that changing my muffler will throw off my carb tune. Would it?

I'm thinking about modifying my existing muffler by welding a stock tip on the side and closing the other holes, but I really don't know what the baffling is like inside this thing.

Thoughts? Modify a GT3 muffler? Cut the valance...?

Any sport muffler with the dual tips below the valance might be louder that you want. I think the best bet is going with stock and re-introducing the cut out on your drivers side bumper. You should be able to pull the bumper and see where the weld seam is. Use that as a guide to cut the patch out. That’s also going to be the better choice in keeping the torque of your 2.2 I believe.

I agree with the Michael. You may get lucky and when you look at the backside of the drivers side bumper, not only might you see the weld seam but the rolled lip edge might still be somewhat intact and with some careful cutting and a little touch up paint you could be in business.
The stock muffler is great I agree….not too loud not too soft and shouldn’t alter your tuning from what you already have there.
Everything I read about most dual-out mufflers is that they’re cool and loud, but annoying at certain rpms and highway speeds for anything more than a few minutes. But obviously, to each his own.

I use a M&K GT3 muffler with the additional baffles they sell inserted into the pipes. It completely eliminated the drone, but kept most of that awesome sound.

I'm ordering one of their internal caps (to use instead of the baffles) to slide into one of the outlets so I can quiet it down for my 5 year old daughter.

I love the GT3 sound, but it's not applicable in all driving situations so I use the accessories.

Cutting out the valance is looking pretty straightforward, so I'll probably go that route. No parts purchased yet.
