Help-84 with 3.2 no start
It started as an intermittant cut off while driving then a no start situation.Replaced the Dme relay, found a speed sensor measuring(>18k)way out of spec. My question is how to remove and replace the speed sensor? Can't even see the sensor.Do you have to remove upper part of motor(intake, blower motor) to access sensor?
Thanx, Feisal |

Speed sensor is located above cylinder #3, at approximately 2 'o clock on the outside of the flywheel. Jack up your car and remove the rear driver's side wheel, look up under there at the "front" of the motor...there are 2 sensors there. The lower sensor is the speed sensor, the upper one is your reference sensor. Not super easy to get access to, but not real bad by P-car standards. No need to remove any engine parts to access these beauties.
P.S.---if you need to replace any of those buggers, I believe the BMW sensors are exactly the same as the P-car sensors...at almost half the price. Available from our host.

This thread is timely, on Monday when I was out on the track with my 84 911 and it just shut down as I was exiting a corner. Just coasted to the next corner worker and pulled into the grass. Sucks having to wait for a tow and feel for the other guys in the session.
Would turn over no problem just wouldn't start. Like you Feisal when I got back to the paddock tried my spare DME relay, poked around a little, still nothing. Was able to get some guys to help push it into the trailer, I need to look at it this weekend. |
