911 haters on GRM.com
I used to subscribe to the mag the articles seem to be about everything but 911s so I cancelled my subscription. Anyway, I stop by the website every once in a long while.
Lo and behold, there's a thread re 911s. Would someone go there and post some real world maintenance and upgrade costs? I'm not qualified to do so since my cars are hardly ever driven now. Some posters seem really interested in acquiring a 911. Also, they keep comparing autox times just like in the mag. Autox isn't really the 911s forte, is it? http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/i-dont-get-it-whats-so-good-about-911s/10958/page1/ |
The only people I see hating are the ones with POS cars in their avatar. They wouldn't know a quality driving experience in a worthwhile car if it fell on their head.

A few months ago GRM's cover article was "How to Drive Your 911 Fast" by Patrick Long. It is still the best car magazine out there, by an order of magnitude.
Looks like the people who get it on the GRM board outnumber the people who don't. Tom |
Not haters, just a few who don't get it... or maybe "get it" differently then we do. And that's a good thing. Porsches, 911s in particular, are not to everyone's liking. I was raised on American V8 iron and thought EVERYTHING else was irrelevant until I was exposed to the world beyond Detroit in my buddy's '81 Fiat Spider back in the day. The idea of the sports car was now something I understood and appreciated. I have since owned Mustangs, Camaros, an Alfa, an early Z, a 350Z, an MR2 Turbo, a Probe GT, a TR6, and, finally, a 911.
They are ALL cool! |
And... both GrassRootsMotorsports and sister pub Classic Motorsports are great mags. These folks are first-rate gearheads.

I currently only have two magazine subscriptions: Grassroots and Excellence.
Both are fine publications, both for slightly different reasons. |

The thread reads like there are some 911 fans on there for sure. I will sign up and post as looks like a good forum. That the original poster is worried about it costing his parents a load of money sort of says it all regards the age/taste/experience of some respondents IMO. They have some discoveries ahead. |
Grm
My 1st complaint is the publisher spends way too much time on BMW's. He should really change the name to Bimmer Motorsports. Secondly it has become so full of ads it looks like a Skiing magazine. Finally they have people in NASA repeatedly telling the readers that racing is not really that expensive. Are they smoking crack or just in denial? Just my a.m. rant.

GRM is probably one of the best mags around. While autoxing in Florida for the past 13 years I have competed and associated with the GRM group. They are a great bunch of guys and very knowledgable. One of them even competed against me in his 70 911 for a year or so and constantly picking my brain on 911's. Great bunch of guys!!
