Installing the Rear Seat Bottoms...How?
 

I purchased a new set of rear seats for the 911 and am wondering how to affix the bottoms to the carpet...is there any trick to this, or is just some sort of upholstery glue that is required.

I used the same stuff that I used for the install of the carpet... 3M 77 Multipurpose adhesive. Spray it on and your done.

I used a couple of pieces of Velcro. That way, when the rainwater leaks in through wherever it inevitably does, I can pop the cushions out and sop up the water. Unless you are absolutely, positively sure your car doesn't leak, I would put those cushions in "lightly." It's not like they're going anywhere if you don't terminally glue them down, and those seat-cushion buckets are a classic rust area if you let water gather there.

I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that my car leaks! I get SOAKED if I have to drive it in the rain; thank God it only rains here 5-10 times a year.

I purchased both tops and bottoms from a fellow pelican...

If I were you, I'd get those leaks fixed, pronto. If you don't, you'll have some real problems in a few years. Even washing the car isn't a good idea if your car leaks like you say...

I too had the "rear seat leak problem". I don't know if you have a sunroof, but that appears to be the source of most rear leaks. My leak appeared as water dripping down from the headliner, just above the rear window seal. Absolutley soaked and ruined my rear seat bottoms, and with a good storm left water in the rear footwells! At first I thought it was clogged sunroof drains (you folks should know about them), but that was not the problem.
Turns out the leak came from the locating pin from the sunroof rail that wasn't sealed well, and the track tube for the sunroof cable had a bad rubber seal where it went through the rear of the "sunroof pocket". I took out the right sunroof rail and regooed the locating pin, and loosened the nut holding the cable guide and sealed things with silicone goop.
It was a long and frustrating journey to find this problem, and if you have a rear leak and a sunroof, check out this link for the picture of the problem, which will help you understand my feeble effort to put it in words! the pic is of the right rear of the "sunroof pocket" looking up through the opened zipper(cardboard removed). You can see the black rail locating pin, the nut holding the cable guide tube, and the black drain tube in the rear of the pic. To check if this is your bug, zip open your SR access, remove the cardboard cover,and run a stream of water over the roof and look for leaks!

New rear rubber seal fixed it for me. Required a lot of soapy water and beer. I glued my seat bottoms in. I trusted my work. ;)

Commendable, until in 10 years somebody takes them out and discovers that for 9.9 years water has been puddling there unseen.

Of course a 12-year-old car isn't the problem our quarter-century-old beaters are. That's like "a new car!"

That was on the 81 SC. Right there with the beaters. The 993's seal is still nice and soft after 12 years of it's garaged life. I like the Velcro idea, I would put that even after my perfect sealing job. ;)

That said, the moldy smell will be there before the rust.
