There should be a sticker in the engine compartment showing you the cylinder order and the distributor direction. Number 1 is the drivers side (LHD) rear cylinder and the distributor turns counterclockwise (another error in the Bentley). There is a notch on the edge of the distributor for number 1 , you set the crank at TDC compression for number 1, and set the distributor so the rotor points at the notch. Usually this is about 1 o'clock when viewed from above. Be aware that there are two revolutions per cycle and two TDC's, you must be on TDC compression, both valves closed. My advice is to mark the cap tower that is hooked up to number 1. Remove the cap and rotate the crank by hand to the TDC watching the rotor rotation. If the rotor point to the notch at TDC, replace the cap and determined if the wires are incorrect going counterclockwise. If the distributor was removed, it is possible that it was installed on the wrong TDC. While you are in there, remove the felt pad under the rotor and add two drops of oil, then snap the rotor back against the spring pressure to see if the advance is free.
Did you determine there is spark ? You do not have to pull an injector to verify fuel, just crack the fitting. Pulling injectors when you do not know what you are doing is bad advice. Many times the entire sleeve will rip out the stakes and you will destroy the injector sleeve. My advice is not to pull injectors until you know what you are doing and have the parts to replace the sleeve and orings and the knowledge to properly stake the sleeve.
