Painting my 911 gray

Hi need some help. I’m in the process of repainting my 1975 Porsche 911. The color I’ve chosen is slate gray. From my search the Porsche paint code is 6801. I went to four paint stores in my area which carry ppg, dupont and glasurit. They all told me that the paint manufactures don’t have the formula for the Porsche slate gray 6801 anymore because it’s too old. I’ve asked if there was a way to cross reference the paint code to a more modern formula and the answers was no. There only suggestion they had is to bring in an actual paint sample which I don’t have. Has anyone recently painted their car slate gray 6801? If so which brand of paint and code? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

That doesn't sound right - I thought paint mfrs keep recipes forever.

Look at this thread for some info on grey color codes. Post #15 has a cross-reference from Porsche 6801 to BASF 7794. See if that helps the local guys find it.

Try this... goto www.glasurit.com .... english... search for formula (under color)... enter 680* and I believe your color is SCHIEFERGRAU, so scroll down to porsche and click it and 2 types of paint come up click one of them and hit next and you will get the formula.
