Misfiring
Hi,
My stock '89 911 (CA model) now misfires badly upon startup. As the car warms up the misfire diminishes but does not go away. It is most noticeable during hard acceleration. I have the appropriate Haynes Service Manual which is just about worthless as in many instances the verbiage and pictures bear no relationship to my car. I would like to troubleshoot and repair the problem myself. Any suggestions on where to check or how to get a decent service manual that is fairly priced? Thanks In Advance. Jim in Santa Barbara |

You should be able to pick up the new Bentley manual for about $50. This is a significant improvement over your current resource, and you can find out where to get it by searching Bentley on this BB.

Indeed. I replaced my cap and rotor recently with dramatic effect. I am embarrassed to admit they were 25K miles old. I suggest it. Strongly if yours are old.
Resistance of the spark plug wires should be measured from end to end. You may very well find that one or more is "open" in that resistance is infinite and the wire is simply not conducting electricity. I found three. Replaced the screw-off connectors at the spark plug end and now she purrs like a kitten. ------------------ '83 SC |
